Glenn Close revealed in an Instagram video that she recently underwent a complete hip replacement. The 79-year-old actress shared the update to explain why she has been spotted walking with a cane in recent days.
“I found out that my left hip was in really bad shape,” Close said in the video. She added that her goal now is to “keep myself in running order so that I can really leap into whatever challenges come my way.” The actress expressed gratitude to Dr. Edwin Sue at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York for the procedure.
Close remains focused on her upcoming promotional commitments despite the surgery. She hopes to fly to London for the premiere of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The actress also plans to attend the New York opening of All’s Fair season 2, the Ryan Murphy Hulu series.
“I hope, come the 26th, I’ll be on a plane for London to be there for the opening of Hunger Games in London,” she said. Close acknowledged she may not be “running around going up mountains” but aims to return to her “good old self.” She also has a supporting role in Netflix’s La Bola Negra, which has drawn strong Oscar buzz on the festival circuit.
Close reassured fans about her condition in the video. “Don’t worry, I’m feeling great. I have my wonderful, wonderful family around me,” she said. The actress’s recent public appearances had drawn light concern from fans after she was photographed holding a cane at a La Bola Negra screening in New York City on Oct. 15. Close ended her message by looking forward to “all the adventures coming” her way.
