Mountain trails just minutes from the city. A moon landing by the harbour. Christmas lights dancing across skyscrapers. Between its outdoor escapes and a packed festive calendar, Hong Kong offers year-end experiences your family can’t get anywhere else, and it’s just four hours away.
It goes without saying that Hong Kong is a favourite travel destination for those of us here in Singapore. And if you’re planning your year-end break in the vibrant city, you’ll already know that it’s one of the best times to visit thanks to its pleasantly cooler weather. But that’s not all–October to December is when there’s also a tonne of unique activities that transforms the city beyond its usual charms! Here are all the best things to do in Hong Kong this year-end and why it needs to be on your travel bucket list.
Explore a Christmas wonderland at Hong Kong WinterFest

Singapore has Orchard Road. Hong Kong turns an entire financial district into a light show. From November, WinterFest drizzles the city in Christmas vibes, with a Christmas Town in Central that brought a giant tree, toy-themed decorations and Santa last year. Central, Tsim Sha Tsui and Causeway Bay all light up, and the kids will want to stop at every display. Then there are the Christmas markets. Our pick for families is the Discovery Bay Christmas Crafts Market. The ferry ride from Central is half the fun, and once you’re there, it’s handmade gifts, festive treats and a chance to meet Santa.
The season ends with a bang on 31 December, when fireworks set to music light up Victoria Harbour. It all falls in the school holidays, and most of it is free. Best of all, kids get a real winter Christmas, with twinkling lights and crisp evening air that’s hard to come by back home.
When: November 2026 to January 2027
Where: Central, Tsim Sha Tsui and Causeway Bay (full venue list to be announced)
How much: Free! More info here.
“Travel” to space at the Fly Me to the Moon exhibition

Got a little astronaut at home? This immersive exhibition takes kids on the full 380,000 km trip to the moon, and they get to do far more than look. A simulator, complete with immersive light and sound, puts them through lift-off and a moon landing. In a futuristic lunar home, they can use real-time AI to design a moon base of their own. And in the immersive theatre, they’ll watch Earth rise over the moon’s far side, a view few people ever get to see. It’s science that feels like an adventure, and it’s right on the harbourfront, a short walk from the Hong Kong Space Museum.
When: 2 October to 22 November 2026
Where: K11 MUSEA, Tsim Sha Tsui
How much: HK$200 (~S$33) for ages 12 & above, HK$175 (~S$29) for ages 12 & under – get tickets here.
Catch live family-friendly shows at the Asia+ Festival

It’s like a world tour, minus the extra flights. Asia+ packs around 100 performances and activities into the season, with artists from more than 30 countries, including first-timers like Brazil, Armenia and Uruguay. Kids can watch Korean contemporary ballet one day and Indonesian gamelan or acrobatics the next. It’s not all sit-still-and-watch, either. Alongside the stage shows, there are hands-on workshops, an exhibition and even backstage tours. For families, the one not to miss is Asian Ethnic Cultural Performances+, an outdoor carnival where kids can get up and dance along to folk music from across the region.
When: 23 September to 29 November 2026
Where: Various venues across Hong Kong
How much: Varies by show. Click here to check.
Explore Hong Kong in a new way at Heritage Fiesta 2026

Swap the skyscrapers for an old pagoda and walled villages up in the New Territories. Heritage Fiesta opens up 12 historic spots, including the grand Tai Fu Tai mansion. There’s also the Ping Shan Heritage Trail, Hong Kong’s very first, where you’ll find the Tsui Sing Lau Pagoda. Kids even get to walk through the actual gate of a walled village. They’ll also find an old police station that now trains guide dogs. Even better, there’s a stamp collection sheet to fill at each stop, so the day feels like a treasure hunt. Guided tours and parent-child workshops are all free. New this year are free open-top bus heritage tours on selected weekends in November and December, so the kids can see the villages from the top deck.
When: October to December 2026
Where: Northern Metropolis, New Territories (Yuen Long, Sheung Shui and Fanling)
How much: Free! More info here.
Go on a hike & explore Hong Kong’s outdoors

Another reason to visit Hong Kong with the kids this year-end is its cool, dry weather. It’s the best time to explore one of Hong Kong’s many kid-friendly hiking trails, with mountains, reservoirs and coastlines accessible from the city. The Peak Circle Walk is flat, stroller-friendly and full of harbour views. At Tai Tam Reservoir, little ones can cross century-old stone bridges, while kids aged five and up can tackle Dragon’s Back, which ends at Big Wave Bay beach. You can also check out Hong Kong’s best free outdoor playgrounds; try Hong Kong Park’s six-storey treehouse playground or the harbourfront slides at Cha Kwo Ling Promenade. When everyone needs a breather, there are plenty of laid-back family-friendly Hong Kong neighbourhoods where you can slow down and enjoy a quieter side of the city. Best part is–all of these activities are free!
For families based in Singapore, there are so many reasons to make Hong Kong your year-end pick! Enjoy the year-end festive vibes and experience unique family-friendly activities that you can’t replicate elsewhere. Discover what makes Hong Kong truly unique here.
