Jason Sudeikis just got brutally honest about what went wrong with Olivia Wilde. The Ted Lasso star revealed the one lesson that changed how he approaches every relationship now.

Jason Sudeikis opened up about his nine-year relationship with ex-fiancée Olivia Wilde on Sunday’s episode of the Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso podcast. The Ted Lasso star reflected on what he would have done differently during their time together.
“I think it’s just flat-out communication,” Sudeikis said. “I could have communicated better with how I felt, how things were making me feel [and] how things make me feel.”
The 51-year-old actor stressed the importance of expressing emotions rather than bottling them up. “If I’m feeling a certain way and I don’t talk about it, that doesn’t make it go away,” he continued. He called it “unfair” to expect someone to be a “mind reader,” whether that person is a partner or a colleague.
When asked if he understood the breakup better now, Sudeikis offered a candid perspective. “It’s the old equation of heartbreak, or any variation of it, takes half as long as the process itself … to get over something,” he explained. He also praised Wilde’s work, saying she is “very good” at her job.
“I’m thrilled for her, and I feel very fortunate doing what I’m supposed to be doing,” Sudeikis added. “But going through all that has allowed me to see when other folks are going through something similar.”
Sudeikis and Wilde began dating in 2011 after meeting at a Saturday Night Live party. They got engaged in 2013 and welcomed two children together. Son Otis Alexander arrived in 2014, and daughter Daisy Josephine followed in 2016. The couple split in 2020.
Following the breakup, Sudeikis dated Keeley Hazell from 2021 to 2022. Wilde dated Harry Styles during the same period before moving on with actor Dane DiLiegro in 2025 and later Casper Jopling.
