Real Madrid on Friday demanded the immediate resignation of La Liga president Javier Tebas from his post as well as from his position as vice president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, accusing him of repeatedly attacking the club and lacking neutrality and impartiality.
The Spanish club’s statement came in response to remarks by Tebas in which he compared methods used by Real Madrid’s management to those of Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Germany’s propaganda minister, and referred to Real Madrid TV as an instrument of the alleged strategy.
Real Madrid described the comparison as “absolutely intolerable and extraordinarily serious,” saying Tebas’ clarification that he was not referring to Nazi ideology did not lessen what the club called the “deeply offensive” nature of his remarks.
The club accused Tebas of repeatedly targeting Real Madrid, its president and its media outlets, and said it was unacceptable for him to attribute actions by third parties to the club.
Real Madrid also criticized Tebas over his comments concerning the club’s actions surrounding the Negreira case, which involves payments made by Barcelona over a period of years to companies linked to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, a former vice president of Spain’s Technical Committee of Referees.
The club said it had approached UEFA to seek clarification over the payments and called for measures to protect the integrity of football competitions.
Real Madrid also called for a comprehensive overhaul of Spain’s refereeing system and football governance structures, including the replacement of officials who held positions of responsibility during the period in question.
The club accused Tebas of focusing on discrediting Real Madrid rather than using his institutional positions to seek clarification of the Negreira case and promote what it described as the “necessary regeneration” of Spanish football.
“Javier Tebas’s repeated conduct demonstrates a lack of neutrality, respect, and impartiality incompatible with his institutional responsibilities,” Real Madrid said.
The club added that his repeated attacks on Real Madrid and those calling for transparency and reform represented “a genuine scourge for Spanish football.”
“Consequently, Real Madrid C. F. demands his immediate resignation as president of LaLiga and vice president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation,” the club said.
