Stars—they’re hardly ever just like us.

The Gist

  • Stars like Kim Kardashian, Jordyn Woods, and Jennifer Lopez are known to carry bags that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

  • An Hermès Birkin can resell for up to $450,000, depending on the hardware and the material used to make the bag.

  • See seven coveted styles owned by celebrities, below.

It’s natural to be curious about what’s inside a star’s purse. But sometimes the main event is the bag itself. At least, that’s the case when said star is carrying an Hermès Birkin that resells for almost half a million dollars, or a clutch covered in diamonds spelling out her name.

In particular, a Hermès bag is notoriously difficult to purchase; sales associates often turn down requests from even the most famous clients for a Kelly or Birkin style. That still hasn’t stopped stars like Kim Kardashian, Cardi B, Jennifer Lopez, and Jordyn Woods from collecting multiples of the fashion house’s coveted styles. A luxe customization isn’t easy to come by either—unless, that is, you’re willing to shell out thousands for a bespoke clutch or an artist’s reinterpretation of a Lady Dior bag.

Ahead, see seven stars that have fully embraced the loud luxury aesthetic with their rare and wildly expensive bags.

No two Hermès Himalayan Birkin bags are the same, which is part of what makes Kim K’s white-to-brown crocodile gradient style so coveted. The SKIMS founder toted the satchel, which resells for $100,000 to $200,000, to a 2023 soccer game in Osaka, Japan, in photos obtained by People. The year prior, Sotheby’s sold a similar style with 18-karat white gold hardware studded in diamonds for $450,000, earning it the distinction of being the world’s most expensive purse.

A red carpet staple of the early 2000s, the Lana Marks Cleopatra clutch seems to be making a comeback courtesy of Li Bingbing. The actress went the extra mile with hers by customizing the ivory bag with a diamond nameplate that pushed the price tag to a staggering $400,000, per WWD.

Jordyn Woods complemented her all-white outfit at Paris Fashion Week with an Hermès Birkin Himalaya. The ombré croc style is one of many Birkins in Woods’ bag collection (though it was the $155 clutch from her own line that—allegedly—helped secure the Knicks playoff win).
