Phil Foden will miss what is sure to be a hostile reception for Manchester City when they take on Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, in their first game since being found guilty of 114 breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules.
Foden is still serving a suspension incurred after being sent off in the derby against Manchester United on Sept. 13. After being deemed to have kicked out at Bruno Fernandes, the 26-year-old was handed a three-match ban. He has already served two games of the suspension, the 5-0 thrashing of Norwich City in the Carabao Cup and the 5-3 win over Sunderland before the international break.
The attacking midfielder is expected to return to action in Wednesday’s Champions League clash at home to Paris Saint-Germain and will also be available for next weekend’s Premier League fixture against Ipswich Town at the Etihad.
Foden overlooked by Tuchel
Foden hasn’t played since being shown that red card against the Red Devils having been left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the extended international break.
The City star had already been overlooked by the German for the 2026 World Cup and seemingly didn’t do enough in his six early-season appearances to force his way back into Tuchel’s plans.
Manchester City injury report vs Liverpool
With Antoine Semenyo and Jérémy Doku expected to play after recent fitness issues, Nico O’Reilly, who withdrew from the England squad during the international break, is the only doubt for Enzo Maresca’s team.
