Captain Marvel just got a new comic series greenlit for the fan-favorite character. This announcement comes as fans keep waiting and hoping to get news about her casting in Avengers: Doomsday. This Captain Marvel series spins out of the upcoming Avengers comic series run by Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto.
At the 2026 New York Comic Con, a new ongoing series by G. Willow Wilson (Ms. Marvel, Black Cat) and acclaimed artist Rachael Stott (Fantastic Four), Captain Marvel #1, has been announced to launch in May 2027. The news was announced by Marvel Comics’ Editor-in-Chief Stephen Wacker.
Stott shared, “So unbelievably thrilled to not only be working with one of my favorite writers, the amazing G. Willow Wilson, but also one of my absolute favorite characters. At times like these, as an artist you really have to pinch yourself, and assume that in a previous life you saved a bus load of orphans from an escaped tiger to get so lucky. Can’t wait to help bring this exciting new chapter of Carol’s story to life!”
How Carol Danvers’ new chapter begins after Avengers: Armageddon
This new chapter of Carol Danvers will notably begin after Avengers: Armageddon. After Armageddon’s cataclysmic events, Carol finds herself grounded like never before. To rise again, she challenges everything she thought she knew about being Captain Marvel and breaks every rule along the way. As she pushes herself further, a threat that has quietly assembled in the Marvel Universe‘s shadows for decades is finally ready to make its move.
Wilson, who did a remarkable job on Ms. Marvel, expressed her excitement at returning to this corner of the Marvel Universe in a video message: “I’m so excited to be returning to these characters who I love so much, these readers who I love so much, and to be taking Carol on her next big adventure. I can’t wait to get started and for fans to see what we have in store for Carol and all her friends. So chin up, put your boots on. We’re going back up!”
Meanwhile, there are no updates yet about Carol Danvers‘ possible inclusion in Avengers: Doomsday.
