HBO has tapped a major actor for its upcoming limited series, breaking his two-month hiatus. David Krumholtz is finally returning to acting after announcing his break earlier this year.
According to Deadline, Krumholtz has joined the cast of The Trial of Louise Woodward, a five-episode series. The show marks the Oppenheimer actor’s first project since he announced taking an “indefinite break” in August.
Created by Matthew Barry, The Trial of Louise Woodward is a true crime series that follows the harrowing real-life incident in 1997 where an 18-year-old British au pair was accused of shaking a baby to death that was left under her care by an American host family. The ensuing trial drew intense media attention in both Britain and America.
Besides Krumholtz, Samantha Mathis, Stephen Kunken and Warren Brown have also joined the cast of The Trial of Louise Woodward. The series will also star Catriona Chandler, Joanne Froggatt, Meghann Fahy, Sagar Radia, Chloë Sevigny, Hugh Laurie, Jack Reynor, John Magaro, and Natalia Dyer.
Krumholtz will play criminal defense attorney Harvey Silverglate.
David Krumholtz had previously put acting on pause
Krumholtz announced in a series of Threads posts in August that he was “frustrated, fed up, fried” with the industry. “I kinda sorta put my acting career on hold the other day,” he wrote. “It’s been something I’ve been petrified to do for years. Specifically, the fear was that I’d go broke and not be able to handle being out of the game. But I sent the definitive email. And gotta say, a huge wave of relief washed over me.”
The 48-year-old added, “Not sure what I’m going to do for money instead, or how I’m going to do it, but I just removed a humongous burden, one that I truly didn’t fathom the weight of until it was gone.”
However, Krumholtz had clarified in a now-deleted social post that he is not retiring from acting for good. “I’m not quitting entirely,” he wrote then. “Just taking a bit of a step back and an indefinite break. The stress of the moment has me wondering if there’s a higher calling to pursue.”
Fans are now looking forward to the actor’s return to the screen in HBO’s The Trial of Louise Woodward, which is reportedly set to premiere in 2027. An exact release date has not been announced yet.
