Aaron Sorkin’s return to the world of Facebook opens in cinemas on October 9, and many fans already want to know when they can watch it at home. Sony Pictures distributes The Social Reckoning, but the studio has not yet shared any digital release or streaming plans.
When could The Social Reckoning get its digital release date?
The Social Reckoning‘s digital release could happen within a month of the cinema opening. That points to early November for anyone who wants to buy or rent the film at home. The date may shift. Late November is also a possibility, and the film could also reach digital platforms at some point before the year ends. Sony has not confirmed any of these timeframes.
Sorkin wrote and directed the project, which works as a companion to The Social Network rather than a straight sequel. Mikey Madison plays Frances Haugen, the former Facebook employee who exposed internal company documents. Jeremy Allen White plays Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz, and Jeremy Strong takes on the role of Mark Zuckerberg.
When will The Social Reckoning get its streaming date on Netflix?
Subscription viewers will wait longer. Streaming should follow roughly three months after opening, which would put The Social Reckoning debut around early January 2027. Netflix looks like the likeliest home.
It already holds first-pick subscription rights to Sony’s cinema releases in the United States, and a worldwide agreement signed in January 2026 widens that arrangement. Under the deal, a Sony film moves to Netflix only after its theatrical and home-entertainment runs finish. That order explains why a digital release would come before a streaming debut.
Viewers outside the U.S. may wait longer. Netflix is rolling the deal out territory by territory, and it expects full global availability in early 2029. Neither company has named a streaming platform for The Social Reckoning.
