John Cena & David Harbour Cast in New Comedy Thriller Movie Like Tim Robinson’s Friendship

Peacemaker star John Cena and former Stranger Things star David Harbour have joined Fifth Season’s new comedy thriller. The upcoming movie comes from Jonatan Etzler, director of Bad Apples.

According to Deadline, Emmy winner Harbour and Emmy nominee Cena will star in The Family Disappears, which is based on an original script by Brendan O’Hare.

Harbour was most recently seen in the limited TV series DTF St. Louis by Steven Conrad. Its cast also included Jason Bateman and Linda Cardellini, among others. Cena was featured in this year’s movie Coyote vs. Acme and the Netflix comedy Little Brother. He also received an Emmy nomination as an executive producer on Prime Video’s action-comedy film Heads of State.

Harbour will next appear in several interesting projects, including Courteney Cox’s crime thriller Evil Genius, Violent Night 2, and Avengers: Doomsday, in which he will reprise his popular role as Red Guardian. As for the former WWE World Champion, he will soon star in the Apple Original Matchbox: The Movie and Netflix’s comedy One Attempt Remaining.

The Family Disappears brings together a strong creative team

The Family Disappears will reunite a team that has worked on several acclaimed projects. It will see Friends Night’s Nick Weidenfeld and CAT5’s Alexis Garcia serving as the producers. They previously made the popular dark comedy film Friendship, starring comedian Tim Robinson and renowned MCU star Paul Rudd, among others. The movie was produced by Fifth Season, in partnership with BoulderLight Pictures.

The plot of the upcoming thriller revolves around an overworked father who returns home from a work trip, only to find his family missing. He also encounters a strange person who has taken over his home.

Filming on The Family Disappears will start on November 10, 2026, in Atlanta, Georgia. The movie does not yet have an official release date.
