United States Forest Service carrying out burning operation near Quincy | Covering California

QUINCY, Calif. – The United States Forest Service says firefighters are conducting ignitions on approximately 43 acres as part of the North Quincy Project after a successful test fire Saturday morning.

The Cascade Trailhead remains open, but parking is limited due to fire equipment in the area. However, the Platform and Flume Trails are currently closed.

The Plumas National Forest says there will be increased firefighter traffic present in the area, primarily on Old Highway.

The public is asked to avoid Old Highway if possible, use alternate routes, or use extreme caution when traveling through the area.

As of 11:30 a.m., smoke from the prescribed burn was visible from Quincy and the surrounding area.

Officials say the smoke will become increasingly visible as ignitions continue and fuels are burning, including from Highway 70 and the Feather River Canyon.
