One of the latest James Bond contenders is about to star in a highly anticipated Netflix period drama remake. The actor’s upcoming role and his shifting 007 casting odds paint an interesting picture for his evolving career trajectory.
Jack Lowden’s Pride and Prejudice hits Netflix next month
Jack Lowden stars as Mr. Darcy in Netflix’s upcoming Pride and Prejudice adaptation. The six-episode series premieres on December 3, 2026. Dolly Alderton wrote the adaptation, while Euros Lyn directs the period drama.
Emma Corrin plays Elizabeth Bennet opposite Lowden’s Mr. Darcy in the series. Olivia Colman takes on the role of Mrs. Bennet. Rufus Sewell portrays Mr. Bennet, the patriarch of the Bennet household. Meanwhile, the series also features Louis Partridge as Mr. Wickham and Jamie Demetriou as Mr. Collins. Daryl McCormack rounds out the ensemble as Mr. Bingley.
Alderton described the project as a privilege for her generation of storytellers. She called Jane Austen’s novel “the blueprint for romantic comedy.” Alderton also praised the source material as “a gift to adapt.” She highlighted its blend of “drama and depth as well as comedy and charm.”
Netflix released the official trailer on October 29, 2026. Since then, the trailer has already accumulated over 2.1 million views on YouTube. Lookout Point, a BBC Studios company, produces the series alongside Netflix.
Notably, principal photography took place across multiple UK locations starting July 2025. Filming locations included Spitalfields in East London and the Peak District in Derbyshire. In addition, the town of Rye in East Sussex stood in as the fictional village of Meryton.
Lowden currently also features in betting odds for the next James Bond role. However, Callum Turner has reportedly overtaken him with a 63% chance. Bookmaker William Hill cut Turner’s odds from 3/1 to 8/13 for the 007 role. Lowden currently sits at 2/1 in that race.
The Pride and Prejudice series marks a faithful yet fresh retelling of Austen’s classic story. Corrin and Lowden also serve as executive producers on the project.
