Wendy’s Unveils Free RPG on Steam and Gamers Are Impressed: ‘This Actually Looks Great’

Wendy’s has long been a major player in the realm of major fast food chains in the U.S., but the brand doesn’t have much of a presence in gaming. That changes with the unveiling of an all-new RPG coming to Steam that will be free to play for everyone.

An official landing page for WendyQuest: Legend of the Four Corner Stones has been launched on Steam. Developed by 81monkeys, the game features 2D graphics reminiscent of RPG classics from the 1990s. The release date is only listed as “coming soon,” so it’s not yet clear when gamers will actually be able to “play as redheaded warrior Wendy and battle evil mech-monsters to save a culinary kingdom in peril.” Meanwhile, screenshots of the game have been getting people intrigued on social media.

“GOTY contender. This actually looks great,” as one person posted on X.

“I honestly miss fast food games….Excited to play this!” said someone else.

“Battling fast food monsters for free is a pitch I can’t argue with,” another post reads.

The game is set in the land of Savoria, which has come under threat from mech-monsters sent by the villainous Dr. Mechborg. He has been spreading a curse across Savoria by using soggy fries and frozen beef. Using her sacred spatulas and fresh beef, Wendy must go on a quest to solve puzzles and battle mechs, aiming to unite four magical stones to save the land. Her journey will include traveling across five regions, each with their own secrets, from the salty forests to the seasoned deserts.

Enemies appear to poke fun at rival fast food brands, using names like Golden Archers and Hot Sludge Sundaes. As for Wendy’s allies, she can team up with party members influenced by items from the Wendy’s menu, like a French Fry Archer, Spicy Chickeneer, and Frosty Mage. Each character has their own unique “flavor” that they can bring into combat to deal extra damage to certain enemies.

Wendy’s Finally Gets an Official Video Game

Wendy’s has not gone this far into the world of gaming. In 2019, the fast food joint released a free tabletop RPG called Feast of Legends. It was essentially a version of Dungeons & Dragons with a Wendy’s-themed twist. It was set in the world of Freshtovia, ruled by Queen Wendy, as it faces an invasion by the Ice Jester and his United Clown Nations — a not-so-subtle reference to McDonald’s mascot Ronald McDonald.

The new video game for Wendy’s has also gotten some gamers to remember when Burger King launched a handful of official video games. In 2006, Burger King teamed up with Xbox to release three video games. The most memorable of the three, Sneak King, had players take control of the creepy King mascot that used to appear in Burger King commercials as he sneaks up upon unsuspecting victims to offer them free food. A kart-style racing game and a bumper car game were also available.
